Grateful Giving and Pie!

Sunday, November 23rd we’ll celebrate Thanksgiving week together with a simple meal after church. Bring bread, rolls, or pies to share! Some tasty soups and salad will be provided.

You’re also invited to bring a Metro Smartrip pass, grocery, gas, McDonald’s or other gift card ($10 or $15 cards are ideal) to add to the stash from which we can draw when people come to the church looking for help. Or bring quick-prep food to save for sharing with those in need.

Following the meal you’re invited to join in some community service as we drive over to the stretch of Kenilworth Avenue for which we’ve taken responsibility and pick up litter and trash along the road. If you have gloves, bring those, too!

CROP Walk Sunday, May 4

cropwalk-2013-575px

Join UPCOB’s group walking for this year’s Prince George’s County CROP Walk.  Part of the money raised by CROP Walk goes to Church World Service to provide food for people around the world and a portion of the money stays in Prince George’s County going to organizations that help with local hunger needs. If you would like to donate to the UPCOB CROP Walk Team online, simply go to this website and make your online donation.

We’ll be gathering beginning at 1 p.m. at Wells Ice Rink to walk around Lake Artemesia. After the walk (sometime after 3 p.m.) join us as we gather at Kim & Hooker’s house for a picnic. Bring a salad, chips or dessert to share (grill & drinks will be provided). Walkers, supporters, and others are welcome!

Here’s some UPCOB trivia from past CROP walks!

2013 – 34 walkers and 2 dogs and raised $1325.00

2012 – 23 walkers and raised $1280.02

2011 – 22 walkers and raised $1369.00

That’s nearly $5000 raised just by UPCOB members, friends and families

The youth are working on a service project to collect items for the Brethren Disaster Ministries (BDM) which works with Church World Service (CWS) to supply clean-up buckets and baby care kits to people around the world.

It seems like there is some kind of crisis with a tornado, hurricane, typhoon, earthquake, flood around the world at any given time. BDM and CWS always try to respond.  Our congregation has supplied BDM with buckets, baby care kits, school kits, hygene kits and other supplies through the years.
