Join UPCOB’s group walking for this year’s Prince George’s County CROP Walk. Part of the money raised by CROP Walk goes to Church World Service to provide food for people around the world and a portion of the money stays in Prince George’s County going to organizations that help with local hunger needs. If you would like to donate to the UPCOB CROP Walk Team online, simply go to this website and make your online donation.
We’ll be gathering beginning at 1 p.m. at Wells Ice Rink to walk around Lake Artemesia. After the walk (sometime after 3 p.m.) join us as we gather at Kim & Hooker’s house for a picnic. Bring a salad, chips or dessert to share (grill & drinks will be provided). Walkers, supporters, and others are welcome!
Here’s some UPCOB trivia from past CROP walks!
2013 – 34 walkers and 2 dogs and raised $1325.00
2012 – 23 walkers and raised $1280.02
2011 – 22 walkers and raised $1369.00
That’s nearly $5000 raised just by UPCOB members, friends and families

Everyone is invited! This is one of UPCOB’s wonderful events for the community. Invite your neighbor! Bring a friend! Come join us for our annual spaghetti dinner. We’ll be serving up spaghetti with our own special meat or veggie sauce, garlic bread, salad bar and ice cream sundaes. We transform our social hall into an Italian Bistro and have live music for all to enjoy.
If you’d like to join us in an even bigger way…feel free to sign up for one or more of the fun jobs like set-up, clean-up, serving or even washing dishes. The sign up sheet is on the doors at the back of the sanctuary.
All money donations from the dinner will be split between Help By Phone and Community Crisis Centers – both of whom provide assistance to neighbors in need here in University Park and Hyattsville.
This year we, as a church, are again providing gifts and meals for some of those in need from Riverdale Elementary School. I will have a little tree with first names, age and gender on little cards which you can take and sign for and purchase a gift between $15 and $30 for the child. The tree will be at church Sundays December 1st, 8th and 15th and also at the Christmas Fair on Saturday Dec 7th. If you buy something at the Christmas Fair I will have wrapping paper there for you to wrap the present otherwise please bring the wrapped gifts to the church by Sunday December 15th or deliver them to the church before December 19th. Call the church office (301-864-4328) first to make sure someone will be there to accept the gifts. I will be taking them down to the school on December 20th, the last day of school for Prince George’s County. Extra gifts would be welcome, put an age range and gender on the wrapped gift.
For the family meals we will be accepting non- perishable contributions on December 1st, 8th,15th and 22nd or a cash donation would also be welcome as we will be buying some perishable goods too before we deliver them to the families (we have 6 families from the school) probably on December 23rd. Any questions, call me Jenny Prince at 301-864-1071.
